    My late older brother played at the 'jam' session after Jimi Hendrix's funeral with, among others, Johnny Winter. About six years later, he recorded an album with Richard Gottehrer. That was a year after Rick Derringer wrote and recorded a song called-"I Was Just Another Punk"-with the Edgar Winter Group. Richard may have discovered my brother's band at a place called "CBGB" (the Bowery, NYC), or it may have been through a demo tape he heard. "CBGB" was the place that launch punk rock, though they were not a punk band. I was though; that is until I found Jesus. Lord, I didn't know Rick Derringer was also a Christian. I didn't know that until a few days ago. Amen.

    This is an amazing interview. I didn't know that Rick Derringer was a Christian until I saw this and other 'living legends' interviews. I remember being in Westport, Ct. in 1976: One day back then, I found myself next door to Dan Hartman (he lived in Westport then in a place called 'The Schoolhouse'). He lived next door to a kindergarten teacher named Jill who was a friend of my then girlfriend. I was there one day back in 1976, listening to David Bowie's "Station To Station" album. Right after listening to the song-'Word On A Wing'-Jill asked me if I wanted to go next door and meet Dan. I ignored that question, and said-"That's a gospel song; that's Bowie singing about praying to Jesus. Play that again." I never got around to meeting Dan, but the following year my brother's band opened for the Talking Heads at a rock club in Westport called The Player's Tavern. I was with the same girlfriend, and yes, they played their version of 'Take Me To The River'. Soon after we saw Rick Derringer and his band perform at another rock club in Connecticut. The following year (1978), she dumped me for Roger Daltrey. Btw, my name is Tommy. There's more to this story and it's all true. I'm also a born again Christian, and I want you doubters out there to know that that is a true story, too!

    The Fillmore East. My late older brother played The Fillmore East when he was a guitarist in The Buddy Miles Band, I saw him there, 1970, while he was opening for The Guess Who. Then later that year, my brother found himself at the 'jam' session after the funeral service for Jimi Hendrix, playing "Rock N Roll Hootchie Koo" with Johnny Winter!?

    Maria, I believe we are cousins…My Grandfather was John D’Amato and died at the age of 59 around 1942. He was married to my Grandmother Maria Grimaldi Fazzino D’Amato. It was a 2nd Marriage for both of them. (They also had children from their first marriages). They had 2 children together. My Father John Anthony D’Amato and my Aunt Fay (Philomena) D’Amato. We lived in Kings County, Brooklyn until I was five years old and then we moved to upstate, New York. My father was born in 1925, so he was 17 years old when you were born, I believe, so I’m thinking perhaps my father and your father may have been first cousins and maybe our Grandfather’s may have been brothers…but I’m not sure… But I definitely believe we are related because I was told that we were when I was younger, and also I see a resemblance : )

    Saw him with Survivor (Sullivan, Droubay and 2 other non-classic members) in 2013. Jimi was the only one to come out afterwards and greet the fans. I shook his hand and he was really gracious and down to earth. Passed away a year later.

    I was alone tonight feeling depressed that I couldn't write lyrics that were meaningful. And then I played this video which ( to me ) is the guest I had over to the house to tell me some things. I learned more in the last 7 minutes than any of my friends. I feel better and can move on. Christopher Cross is a great songwriter but also a therapist.

  • @islandgirltai
    @islandgirltai 22 дні тому

    ❤❤.. in my home my mother called Christopher Cross noise and told me to turn it down lol.. nice pleasant🙂.. Now my dad on the other hand, I didn’t get to know my father very well until I was 16 when he moved closer to me in Arizona the next place I grew up when I was a kid .. my father was into the big band Frank Sinatra the rat pack you know I naturally gravitated towards musicians Etta James that I picked up on my own.. Until I met my friend.. Mike who died of diabetes and health complications.. he was like my brother.. I would talk about music and he would always have a record for me. That was his specialty and he taught me a lot about other music and other genres. I’m very fortunate to have such a wonderful friend.. thanks for sharing these videos sharing your thoughts and these videos.. I’m even more impressed than I already was .. blessings!.

    Aweeeeee ❤❤.. having children really does change you I know.. life hasn’t been easy for me and my child my youngest daughter.. And I didn’t have a guidebook I didn’t have any anything to give me any kind of rules. I didn’t have a great role model for a mother.. not me saying anything negative about her. It’s just didn’t have a mother to look after me and I made it a point that my daughter would always be safe.. 10 years.. I’d like to think I did that for her, but I know I did it for me too.. very particular who comes around my child.. A lot of time up a lot at night, keeping her safe, but that’s the story in itself.. She’s my inspiration. She’s what keeps me straight.. She’s my lifeline.. my best friend committed suicide I think she’s the one that held me together.. It was a rough time inlife.. another time.. for another time.. Well, I’m glad I stumbled across these. It’s nice to see the side of you. I totally get it.. you.. I can swear, I hear my friend Mike. He was like my brother chuckling at me right now.. if you only knew.. Blessings❤❤..

  • @islandgirltai
    @islandgirltai 22 дні тому

    Lol, I’m laughing because my head doesn’t shut up at all. It talks and talk. I have to meditate and I have to talk myself through it. Talk it down and talk it out.. I read the Bible three times when I was a kid cause I came from the Boone StiiXx yeah of nowhere and we had three maybe channels on the TV.. and so I read a lot because I read and ✍🏼 by the time I was three.. Because of that, I have a very large understanding of the Bible.. but it was my faith that seemed to help me connect dots that were missing for me.. As I said before an internal change.. and I’m a work in progress and will be until it’s time for me to fly friendly skies .. I almost did, but I was pulled back from somebody special.. long story maybe another time.. Well, I think you’re awesome sauces.. but I already knew that before I seen this I feel like if I think somebody’s like me, I believe they’re awesome .. I didn’t realize how cool-you are.. 😊😊.. or even how much we are alike like for real I like.. Thanks for sharing. These are great..!

  • @islandgirltai
    @islandgirltai 22 дні тому

    ❤❤.. well that’s pretty cool you and I think very much alike! Too bad we didn’t get to talk specially after I got into my Buddhism and I met my mentor not physically, but through books and stuff anything I can get my hands on.. For me that was more an internal transformation, like looking in my own mirror and my families mirror and 7 generations back& ForwardZzz ..to be the change within me 1st, while simultaneously changing my family dynamics and around me.. I feel strongly about since my childhood was anything but healthy.. and I didn’t want that for my daughters.. collaboration I don’t think I’ve ever really collaborated with anybody. I haven’t met anybody that thinks like I do.. a little wacky and I have funny ideas in my head. Most people don’t understand and that’s OK. I get it. I’m quirky and different but I’ve learned to accept those things about me because that’s what makes me.. what I’ve also had a lot of really amazing people heavens angels now after me who would like those things about me too.. I would’ve collaborated with them, but timing was never right and they well do from heaven.. work with me.. I’m grateful for that and them.. Thanks for sharing a little bit of your story very much appreciated.. blessings 😇🫶🏼🙏🏼🫵🏼

    Well, that’s really nice to hear. It’s nice to hear this side of you Mr. CCD.’z 😊 too bad we never got to talk back in the day even in the 2000s we would’ve probably got along quite well very similar. Thanks for sharing. Blessings and much love to you..❤❤

  • @islandgirltai
    @islandgirltai 22 дні тому

    Well, that’s really awesome. This is the first time I’ve seen these.. hey we have similar beliefs.. You’re right a lot of times people things happen really fast and people either take it for granted or they’re not ready.. not prepared and other times it’s changes you changes people I’ve seen so many times with so many people.. I walked away from it to keep me from changing. kind of became in-service for other people because it felt right..I could’ve fallen .. into a similar path that you did before you got sober.. I removed myself from Hollywood and went to an island to heal my life inside out.. I was very fortunate that 2000. I met somebody who introduced me to my mentor in life.. A Buddhist philosopher who spent his whole life standing up for the little people like me to abolish nuclear arms. Addressing issues that still exist today.. on a global scale. It only takes one person to stand up and have the courage to be the change the voice for others and eventually one by one by one.. each person doing their own part can change a country a nation like a domino effect.. inspire uplift is very important not only to my mentor in life.. For all of the world.. in all of us too.. There’s so much I could say about my mentor, which kind of matches what you’re talking about? It’s pretty interesting… Thanks for sharing. I appreciate it. You have a lot of great things to say. .. blessings to you and your family.. ❤❤..
